aka Blackberry

A highly rated American cultivar with sturdy canes with few thorns. The large luscious berries ripen around January. The berries are very juicy with a tart yet sweet flavour. For best results plant in sun or part shade in deep acid soil. Deciduous.

Blackberries fruit on 2nd year wood. It is usual to cut back the cane that has finished fruiting and then train a 1 year old new cane in preparation for fruiting the following season. Suitable for planting in most areas of NZ.

Blueberry Northern Highbush. Fruit is ready to eat from December. Packed full of Vitamin C the generous crops of medium sized, mild flavoured berries will hold on the bush for long periods. Plant with another Northern Highbush. Happiest in rich acid soil. Deciduous.

Blueberry Rabbiteye - this variety not only tastes good it looks good in the garden as well. The berries are small, light blue, have an excellent flavour and ripe around March. Plant in sun or part shade in nice rich acid soil for best results. Pollinate with another Rabbiteye. Evergreen.

Blueberry Southern Highbush. A vigorous, upright grower that produces very large fruit with a mild sweet flavour. Plant in the sun in rich acid soil. Will perform better with a companion such as 'Marimba' or 'Petite Blue'. Ripe from November onwards. Deciduous.

A self fertile nearly thornless Boysenberry. Medium to large delicious berries from December. Grow in a sunny sheltered position and provide horizontal support. Prune in winter and remember Boysenberries are Floricanes meaning they fruit on 2nd year growth. Deciduous.

This fruiting fig is highly ornamental as well as productive. Large glossy green foliage and a vigorous growth habit with large fruit that are purplish brown with pink flesh and a rich flavour. Ventura fig has a compact growth form and produces large fruit with green skin and dark red interior flesh. The fruit have a pronounced long neck, ripen later in the season and perform well in the cooler climates of the figs' range. Ventura is grown both for drying and for fresh eating.

A must to have in every home garden. Great for making pies like Gandma use too. A heavy bearing and disease resistant gooseberry with large flavourful fruit that can be used for culinary purposes or eaten fresh when fully ripe. Fruit ripens Nov - Jan Deciduous.

The Gooseberry is hardy and in fact loves a cold winter however be aware that new spring growth can be damaged by frost. Gooseberries like a nice layer of mulch or compost around their shallow roots. When pruning remember they fruit on older wood.

Citrus. A popular Lime for ornamental and culinary purposes. The fragrant white blossom has an attractive pink tinge. Aromatic foliage and fruit that is quite a deep yellow when ripe. The peel is easy to remove. Yellow juicy flesh which has a well balanced mild acidity. Evergreen.

This Mandarin is very popular in Queensland where it was discovered as a chance seedling in 1888. The virtually thorn-less tree produces large fruit with a thin easy peel skin. Ripens around July. If left on the tree you will notice the skin gets 'puffy'. Evergreen.

AKA as Chilean Guava or NZ Cranberry. A reliable little shrub with tight small leaves in an attractive bronze green shade. Little white flowers in spring are followed by fragrant edible berries. Easy to grow, clips well so can be used for topiary or hedging. Evergreen.

Known as the "Fruit of the Gods". An exceptional ornamental tree because of the deep orange leaves. But wait, there's more, you can also eat the delicious non astringent fruit. "Fuyu" is known for being very sweet and keeping well. Fruits in 4 - 5 years. Non-astringent variety. Diospyros Kaki rootstock.

A highly ornamental & fruiting tree, with large rounder orange coloured, sweet, crisp autumn fruit. Sought after as it ripens slightly earlier than Fuyu. Heavy crops may require thinning. Fruits in 4 - 5 years. Deciduous. Non-astringent variety. Diospyros Kaki rootstock.

Fruit ripen May-June; birds love this fruit, it's best to pick from the tree when just ripe; use secateurs.

A beautiful and highly ornamental shrub that producers highly decorative and nutritious pomegranates. New growth is bronze -green, in summer there are bright orange flowers which develop into large, burnished red fruits. The fruit is high in Vitamin C, B5, Potassium and anti-oxidants.

Popular in Spanish and Middle Eastern Cusine the Pomegranate has also been seen as a symbol of fertility through-out the ages mainly because of the high seed count in the fruit. Easy to grow in a sunny well drained spot with protection from harsh frost.

Elderberry is a valued plant for its medicinal and nutritional qualities. Large deep green leaflets and fragrant white flower heads in summer are followed by red-black berries. These fruit have a high iron content and can be used for juicing or you may like to make some Elderberry Wine. Deciduous.
